Covid was the beginning of a financial breakthrough in my life. On the 7th of February, l was introduced into the freelancing world by a friend of mine Thomas.

He sent me a link with a caption that says “All you need is a skill, to become the next millionaire

Seeing that piqued my interest to check out the link.

The link contained a brief description about freelancing, various niches, and different platforms to work on.

Indeed, that was my first time hearing the word-freelancing. l wanted to know more about it and so my journey began.

Freelancing is a digital world where people with the right skill can earn money.

As a beginning, you don’t need to be an expert but as time goes on, you need to improve your skills and become an expert.

There are different platforms for freelancing like Upwork, Fiverr and so on. I started my journey on Fiverr

l took online courses from Udemy, read Neil Patel blogs, watched YouTube, used medium, and read a lot of blog posts.

It is Free. All you need to do is go on the website (Fiverr.com), and sign up.

Funny enough, I started out with my phone and enough data to browse.

  • How long did it take you to go from part time to full-time or how long will it take you?

I had no other job apart from being a student during that period so l started out as a full-time freelancer and currently still a full-time freelancer.

  • What gear is needed to begin?

To start freelancing, you don’t need much. All you need is a good browsing phone and good internet.

I earned half a million.

Still counting but freelancing has made into a millionaire

As a new freelancer, you should carry out extensive research, pick a niche and don’t stay stagnant. The freelance market is competitive and starting out as a new freelancer is not easy.

Starting out on Fiverr, l woke up by 6am sourcing for jobs to apply too and even before I landed my first gig, it took a month. At a point I got frustrated and almost gave up but like a popular adage “patient dog eats the fattest bone”

If anyone says it would be easy at first, trust me, it is a lie but with time and practice it can get better.

  • What financial advice do you have for someone who wants to start a side hustle as a blog writer?

Having a side hustle as a blog writer is a lucrative business anyone could venture into. Because with the right training, skills, and hacks, you would be unstoppable.

But the only disadvantage is that it can be time consuming. Meaning, you need to devote time to building your niche up to a certain level.

I currently use my laptop and iPhone

  • What resources do you use to promote your business and attract clients?

I use my social media to promote my business-like LinkedIn and Instagram.

l created a portfolio with all the projects l have handled ever since I started freelancing.
